Today’s medical facilities have a wide array of choices when it comes to disinfectants, sanitizers, and cleaning products. Every product comes with its own list of pros and cons, of course, and it can be difficult for facility managers to decide on the products that will best fit their needs, preventing infection of patients and staff while also meeting affordability, storage, waste reduction, and toxicity requirements. The disinfectant (OSG-460 D) and all-purpose cleaner and degreaser (OSG11-12 C) produced on site by 21st Century Healthcare’s Annihilyzer® are incredibly strong choices, providing superior benefits while also “checking all the boxes” for employee safety and green initiatives.
Hospital Disinfectant
OSG-460 D, the hospital disinfectant produced by the Annihilyzer®, meets all the infection control and prevention requirements that medical facility managers look for. It is 99.9999% effective against C. diff, E. coli, MRSA, and other common, high profile causes of infection, with hypochlorous acid as its active ingredient. The hypochlorous acid easily penetrates bacteria and virus cell walls, killing the cell from the inside out. This disinfectant product is rated for use on hard, nonporous surfaces in all areas of a medical facility, as well as other settings such as educational, institutional, and even residential contexts.
With a very low toxicity level, no VOCs released into the air as a byproduct, and an NFPA and HMSI hazard rating of zero, OSG-460 D is also very easy for staff to handle and use without risking the health of patients or employees. OSG-460 D is an anolyte solution, produced on site with the Annihilyzer® unit offered by 21st Century Healthcare Inc. through a simple water electrolysis process.

All-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser
The water electrolysis operation performed by the Annihilyzer® unit, in addition to producing the anolyte solution as a hospital disinfectant, also produces a catholye solution. This solution, OSG11-12 C, is a very effective all-purpose cleaner and degreaser, and is also rated for use in all areas of a healthcare facility. As a cleaner rather than a disinfecting solution, OSG11-12 C is effective in removing large particles from surfaces, including liquid residue, food debris, dust, and dirt.
The catholyte and anolyte solutions produced on site by the Annihilyzer® are a perfect combination for a busy healthcare facility such as a hospital. They allow staff to both clean and disinfect critical patient care areas quickly, thoroughly, and with less risk than is associated with competing products such as chemical cleaners, sodium hypochlorite, and others.
Traditional Cleaning and Disinfectant Solutions
The rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria and other hospital centered pathogens exposes the inability of many traditional disinfecting solutions to target these extremely harmful mutations. Hydrolyte® is highly effective against H1N1, C. diff, salmonella, MRSA, TB, norovirus, and many other pathogens, and is a desirable alternative to more toxic cleaning and disinfecting products.
The effectiveness of Hydrolyte® against antibiotic resistant bacteria is due in large part to its physical mode of destroying harmful cells. The anolyte solution, rather than attacking cells at a chemical level, physically destroys cell walls and breaks down cellular DNA, leaving no opportunity for the building up of resistance.
UV Cleaning
In recent years, the use of ultraviolet (UV) light to disinfect has gained popularity. However, UV light fails to adequately address all surfaces in a hospital room, operating theater, or other setting, leaving areas underneath tables, beds, desks, etc., as safe havens for the growth of C. diff, MRSA, and other harmful pathogens. A Hydrolyte® spray, on the other hand, is able to completely cover all surfaces and eliminate bacteria.
Cleaners/Degreasers
Common household cleaners, while effective at removing large particles such as dust, soil, foods/beverages, and organic matter, leave microorganisms behind even on surfaces that appear clean. As an EPA registered disinfecting solution, Hydrolyte® penetrates beyond the large particles and kills very small microorganisms within minutes of exposure.
